Movement tests provide the clinician with valuable information regarding a patients preferred movement strategy.
Note that muscles which test strong in a MMT may be inhibited when performing a coordinated movement pattern. In addition, muscles which test weak in a MMT may also be inhibited.
Muscle onset and timing in movement can give you the best information around this.
Rules for movement analysis:
- Removal of as much clothing as possible is important for observation purposes.
- Minimal verbal cues so that patient preferred movement is maintained.
- No touch as touch can facilitate
- Each movement should be performed 3 times slowly.
