Movement Analysis

Movement tests provide the clinician with valuable information regarding a patients preferred movement strategy.

Note that muscles which test strong in a MMT may be inhibited when performing a coordinated movement pattern. In addition, muscles which test weak in a MMT may also be inhibited.

Muscle onset and timing in movement can give you the best information around this.

Rules for movement analysis:

  1. Removal of as much clothing as possible is important for observation purposes.
  2. Minimal verbal cues so that patient preferred movement is maintained.
  3. No touch as touch can facilitate
  4. Each movement should be performed 3 times slowly.
