Tips for a Successful Anamnesis

Patients want to know 4 things when they come to see you for the first time. Answering these can help show you care, also that you are attentive and can be trusted with their health conditions.

The 4 primary questions are:

  1. Whats wrong with me – Diagnosis
  2. How long till I’m better – Prognosis
  3. What can you do for me – Treatment
  4. What can I do for myself – Prevention

Answering these in the first session should give your patient greater peace of mind, and will ensure you are both off to a good start.

One last question you may like to ask as a practitioner is:

“Is there anything else that would be helpful for me to know about you that would put me in a better position to help you?”
